
Pro Vice-Chancellor of Queensland University of Technology Visits GIGCAS
Professor GU YuanTong, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), visited the Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (GIGCAS) on June 24.
He was received by ZHU Jianxi, Deputy Director of GIGCAS. Joining them were other members from GIGCAS, including LI Hongyan, in charge of GIGCAS’s Division of Science and Technology, XI Yunfei, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Environmental Technology (SKLAET), ZHU Runliang, Deputy Director of SKLAET, LIANG Xiaoliang, Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Deep Earth Processes and Resources (DEEPER), etc.
ZHU Jianxi extended a warm welcome to GU and briefed him on GIGCAS, including its profile, research achievements, and international collaboration. ZHU noted that GIGCAS and QUT have a long history of academic exchange and cooperation, particularly in the fields of mineralogy and atmospheric chemistry. He expressed hopes for deepening cooperation with QUT and achieving more fruitful outcomes in key areas.
GU, while recalling his experience working alongside XI at QUT, provided an overview of QUT with an emphasis on “the university for the real world”. He said that QUT highly values its partnership with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and regards GIGCAS as a key partner from CAS. He noted that QUT and GIGCAS have significant complementary advantages and great potential for collaboration across multiple research fields. Thus he said QUT is ready to upgrade its partnership with GIGCAS through personnel exchanges, joint student programs, and co-organized workshops.
Following the meeting, GU toured GIGCAS's major research facilities, gaining more understanding of the institute's research layout and strengths, as well as new insights into potential cooperation.
