Second GIG and HKU Bilateral Symposium Held in Hongkong TEXT SIZE: A A A
The second bilateral symposium, co-sponsored by GIG and HUK, was held in Hongkong Special Administrative Region from Mar 5 to 7. Sixty experts and graduate students from GIG and HUK attended the event. The meeting was held in Hongkong University and presided by Professor Zhou Meifu from department of earth sciences of HUK. Professor Xu Yigang, vice director of GIG, and Professor Jonathan Aitchison, dean of department of earth sciences of HUK, attended and addressed in the opening ceremony. Professor Fan Weiming, director of Bureau of Science and Technology for Resource and Environment of Chinese Academy of Science, was invited to attend the meeting. During the meeting, Professor Fan Weiming, Professor Xu Yigang and Professor Jonathan Aitchison announced the Joint Laboratory for chemical Geodynamics, joint-constructed by GIG and HUK, was unveiled and launched. It is reported that the United lab ranked first in organizational assessment of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office in 2008, finally it became one of the five top grade new added united laboratories by Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office. The symposium was organized very successful and achieved anticipated goal because of HUK’s careful organization. Participants considered the periodical bilateral symposium and joint-constructed laboratory offered a platform and opportunity of cooperation in related research areas. Two sides agreed that the next bilateral symposium will be held at GIG in 2010.
