Dr Zhang obtained his BSc (1987) and MSc (1990) from Nanjing University, and PhD (1995) from Chinese Academy of Sciences. He did his postdoctoral study (2000-01) in Reading University, the UK. He has been working in Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry (GIG) of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) since 1995, and was appointed senior research scientist (professor) in 1999. He currently serves as the deputy director of GIG, and director of the State Kay Laboratory of Organic Geochemistry (SKLOG). He leads a research group working in the areas of organic pollution and organic geochemistry, in particular on persistent organic pollutants (POPs), persistent mobile toxics (PMTs) and carbonaceous aerosols etc. He supervises the Accelerated Mass Spectrometry facility (GIG-CAMS) dedicated to environmental radiocarbon (14C) analysis. He has published more than 350 peer-reviewed papers in international scientific journals, with a total citation of >15,000 times and an H index of >60 (ESI). He has been one of the Elsevier highly cited Chinese researchers since 2014. He was the supervisor of >40 PhD students.

Research Interests:

Dr Zhang’s current research interests include: (i) fate of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in regional environment; (ii) development of radiocarbon analysis techniques and its application in environmental sciences; and (iii) environmental pollution and health.
