Research

Our research interests include 1) soil/vegetation-atmosphere exchange of trace gases that are important to air quality and climate; 2) influences of natural processes and human disturbances on the atmospheric composition changes; 3) chemical evolution of atmospheric gas- and particle-phase primary/secondary organic compounds (VOCs and semi-VOCs). We carry out both field measurements (land- and ship-based) and laboratory investigations (including simulation study using a 30 m3 chamber) for biogeochemical processes that govern the composition of the atmosphere. A special focus is the investigation of the Pearl River Delta region, a highly industrialized and densely populated region in south China. Our current projects investigate biogeochemical processes of VOCs with a special concern on the interactions between biogenic VOC emission and regional atmospheric environment, secondary aerosol formation from both anthropogenic and biogenic VOC precursors and the fate of atmospheric organics.

Apart from my personal research, I also serve as an editor of Biogeosciences and an editorial advisory board member of Atmospheric Environment.
