Guangdong Provincial Society for Mineralogy Petrology and Geochemistry (GPSMPG)  is a non-profit academic organization of scholars dedicated to geoscientific research, particularly to mineralogy, petrology and geochemistry. GPSMPG was founded in Guangzhou in 1989, with Prof. FU Jiamo acting as the first Chairman. The current chairman of GDSMPG is Prof. XU Yigang, vice president of Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry under Chinese Academy of Sciences (GIGCAS).

The tenets for GDSMPG are as follows: Abide by the disciplines and laws and observe the social ethic and moral standards; Strengthen organization and cooperation of scholars of the geoscientific communities in Guangdong Province; Facilitate exchange and cooperation between the academic communities in both foreign countries and China; Advocate and promote applications of modern scientific theories and technologies in mineralogical, petrological and geochemical researches; Organize academic exchanges; Explore new research fields; Develop frontier disciplines; Facilitate achievements making and talent training; Render services to national economic construction and scientific and technological modernization. 

GDSMPG has more than 700 members and consists of more than 30 council units, which are devoted to academic research and technological applications in the fields of petrology, mineralogy and geochemistry as well as other related fields in Guangdong Province. From 1990 up to now, more than 70 GDSMPG members were awarded honors or prizes at the national level, at the ministerial or provincial level, or at the local government level or society level. As the principal sponsor of GDSMPG, Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry under Chinese Academy of Sciences (GIGCAS) each year organizes its researchers to promote and popularize knowledge related to geosciences, resources and environmental protection to the communities and the society, and initiate campaigns aiming at scientific promotion and popularization, so as to make active contribution to the economic and cultural construction and sustainable development in Guangdong Province.
